Super Mario Galaxy Film Preview Arrives, Unveiling Fresh Faces Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Actors
Nintendo and Illumination shared the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. The reveal happened in a special Nintendo Direct that centered on the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
The follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will send Mario to the distant reaches of the galaxy. Along the way, he discovers a fresh princess character and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
An Interstellar Journey Drawing from Iconic Releases
In the vein of the Wii console classics that provide its foundation, Mario will depart from the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. During his grand adventure, he will reunite with some well-known personalities, including the Luma, a fan favorite from the first movie.
But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who reportedly commands metallic abilities. Notably, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also contains hints to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
All-Star Vocal Ensemble Returns and Expands
The feature will welcome back of the original voice cast, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
A Big Year for Mario
The new Mario movie is planned to debut around the time of the 40th anniversary of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 looks set to be a important time for Mario and his companions.
Nintendo confirmed three new games publicly declared for that year, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a latest Yoshi adventure game titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Release Date Confirmed
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
